October / November 2017 - Pilgrims' Plane Progress

The Knott's October / November Update

Pilgrims' Plane Progress

The BOA airliner landed at the very empty Miami airport, the first to arrive from Bolivia after Hurricane Irma came through.

Our connecting flight out of Miami had been cancelled the morning we left and only by God's grace and a series of miracles were we able to get it rebooked into Atlanta, cancelled again and then rebooked into Chattanooga (our original destination), at no cost! So began our 3-month pedal-to-the-metal time in the States.

Medical Training

The idea and then the opportunity came up for DJ to take a 10 day medical missionary intensive class at EQUIP in North Carolina. We've dreamed of this for years so it was awesome to watch God work out a space for DJ in an already overfull class and send a donation to cover the amount needed for the down payment that same day!

Those two weeks flew by while DJ learned how to diagnose and treat all sorts of illnesses and injuries, do physical examinations, suture, pull teeth, deliver a baby, and much more. This class, designed for overseas mission work, gave DJ a foundation from which to start from as he travels with the medical teams and facilitates emergency rescue flights. He says it was well worth the investment!

DJ spent a couple days at a backcountry fly-in at the WAD in New Hampshire. Pictured are the airplanes at an outing to Basin Harbor.

Airplane Progress

N118AK came in flying condition but in need of some changes and upgrades for work in Bolivia. The first task was to install the donated radios and Garmin G5 Horizon/Altimeter instrument. Then DJ removed the competition landing gear legs and put on some heavy duty landing gear for carrying big loads in the mountains. Then on with the 35 inch tires and belly mounted cargo pod. After attending to a host of details, it was time to weigh the airplane.

Leaving wintery Vermont, DJ brought the Cub down to TN where he is installing the final equipment and extra fuel tanks for the long flight to Bolivia.

Purchased and Equipped!
Visiting our friends at the Northern New England Conference Office. We are very appreciative of their support and encouragement in so many ways!

We wish we had more time to take a vacation! Since our trip was primarily for the purpose of readying and flying the plane to Bolivia, DJ has stayed very busy with that. We have enjoyed a few free Sundays with family, I visited my sister and we spent three days at the family camp in Massachusetts. These have been highlights, for sure!

Please Note!

SEPT/OCT/NOV Donations

These have been received and will be receipted by the end of the year. Due to technical difficulties we haven't been able to produce donation receipts while in the USA. We ARE still receiving the donations and want to thank you for your patience.
