Rolling or Coasting?

We are fast approaching two months in Bolivia. How time flies!

In a nutshell, the last month has been full of getting our feet on the ground – finding a place to live, battling sickness, and looking for avenues to match our skill set with the needs of the people here. I wish we could say that we have all the answers in place, but we're still solidly in the learning phase!

Throughout all the topsy-turvy of the last month, we've been drawn to focus more on prayer. Prayer has brought us to a lovely little apartment, through a divine appointment. Prayer has opened the door to get to know our neighbors better, and softened our landlords' hearts to share several important pieces of furniture with us. Through prayer we've recovered from various illnesses, and prayer has led us to get to know people who "know people." Nevertheless, there is always room for more prayer. We are reading through a small book on prayer called Daring to Ask For More, by Melody Mason. We highly recommend it! Ultimately, prayer is the secret ingredient to soul-saving mission work – whether at home or in a far-away land.
Two weeks ago, we took a trip out to the village of Malla (pronounced My-a), a small village located in a high valley surrounded by steep mountains. The purpose of the trip was to survey a potential runway site and give recommendations to the mayor and his council. The area was beautiful and we drove for hours on a four-wheel drive track cut into the side of the mountain. We saw lots of llamas, vicuñas (small, wild llama-like animals), and a huge Andean condor. The runway site is located on the top of a rounded alpine mountain at 16,000 ft, not too far from rugged snow-capped mountains reaching to 21,000 ft. The only unfortunate thing from the whole trip is that I accidentally deleted all our photos from the day!
Our vehicle fund is growing! We've reached $7,750, 65% of our goal, and more importantly we are getting close to the purchase price of the 35-year-old Land Cruisers we're interested in. The rest of the $12,000 goal will be used for initial service, repairs, and upgrades in preparation for travel tothe remote areas.

Please join us in praying that God helps us to find the right vehicle. Last week we had an opportunity to go and see our highest interest Land Cruiser, but when we called the owner, he was in the middle of a sale on it. We trust that God has a good plan!
